Tallulah Gorge State Park, one of the shining jewels of the Georgia Park System. Located in the far northeast corner of Georgia, Tallulah Gorge State Park is about an hour and a half drive from downtown Atlanta.
The start of the trails have you initially on top of the Gorge. There are several overlooks that are acceptable to people of all fitness levels. The park also has viewing platforms to the waterfalls in the lower gorge. This requires a good amount of physical ability. Be prepared to walk down and up roughly 1,000 steps.
You can also hike into the gorge itself. Things to remember for this is 1) you will need a permit. So arrive early as they limit them to roughly 100 a day. 2) You will need to physically jump from boulders to cross the river. When we went, this was a task to difficult with backpacks full of camera gear.
