A trip to Oregon is not complete until you drive into the Columbia River Gorge and see Multnomah Falls. The most picturesque and the most visited falls in the Northwest. It is also the tallest waterfall in the state of Oregon and the second tallest year-round waterfall in the United States, towering at 620 feet.
What shocked me the most about this falls is actually its location. If you have never been to the Northwest, Multnomah falls is located in the Columbia River Gorge. Interstate 84 also runs through the gorge. So you can actually see the falls without even leaving the highway. It was actually a little dangerous when I first saw it as I wasn’t expecting to see this massive waterfall as I made my journey from Chicago to Portland. But there it was and I kept racking my head around to see it while cruising down the highway.
What I would recommend doing is driving US30 into the Gorge rather then I-84. This will allow you to see amazing view of the Gorge from the vista house but also allow you to see other waterfalls such as Wahkeena Falls, Latourell Falls, and Horsetail falls. I will have some posts on these individual falls in the future but some of the picture I included in this thread do show them.
